One Million Moms Calls for Boycott of Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade
A conservative activist group known for its boycotts of events, companies, and products that assist LGBTQ inclusion is searching a boycott of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Afternoon Parade.
One Million Moms has issued a petition that has amassed over 21,000 signatures so far. It accuses Macy’s of attempting to expose “tens of millions of viewers at home to the liberal LGBTQ agenda.”
The group primarily takes issue with including musical performances from two Broadway shows — & Juliet and Shucked — both of which feature trans or nonbinary performers.
Justin David Sullivan, who is nonbinary, plays the role of May, a nonbinary friend of Juliet in & Juliet, while Alex Newell, a Tony Award winner who is also nonbinary, plays the female character Lulu in Shucked.
Calling the procession a “nonbinary and transsexual extravaganza,” the group laments Sullivan’s decision to decline eligibility for the Tony Awards on the grounds that the traditional gender-based acting c
This year's Macy's Thanksgiving Daytime Parade is facing controversy as a conservative team is calling for a boycott over the event's inclusion of LGBTQ+ performers.
Earlier this month, conservative team One Million Moms launched a petition calling for a boycott of the parade over its conflict to the event's inclusion of two non-binary performers.
"Justin David Sullivan, who personally identifies as non-binary, will be featured in the & Juliet parade production. On stage in the musical, Sullivan plays the role of "May," a non-binary friend of Juliet," One Million Moms said in a statement. "Alex Newell, a biological male who also identifies as non-binary, won a Tony Award this year for his starring performance in Shucked, playing the female role of Lulu."
"Shame on Macy's for promoting and sponsoring this type of entertainment."
The petition, which has received over 39,000 signatures as of Tuesday, comes as many conservatives own continued to criticize members of the LGBTQ+ society. Several have disagreed with the inclusion of trans person women participating in female sports, while some Republican-led states have sought to ban gender-affirming medical nurture for m

As you may have heard, we at One Million Moms will be boycotting this year’s Macy’s parade because two performers from Broadway musicals are members of the so-called LGBTQ society. As good Christians from Mississippi, we cannot slouch by and let a pair of LGBTQ musical theater professionals up there in New York Urban area get away with singing and dancing in flashy costumes to carefully rehearsed choreography.
When we heard that out of the hundreds of Broadway performers displaying their jazz hands to America, not one, but two of them would be of that persuasion, we knew we had to do something. Not being from New York and never having been to a Broadway entertainment, we have a unusual perspective on what theater should and shouldn’t be. Theater is the church Christmas pageant. It’s a lesser-known Osmond performing on a Tunica riverboat. It’s certainly not LGBTQ people swishin
I’m not really a parade person. I’ve never understood the allure of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Celebration (MTDP). New York is really frigid in late November. I’ve caught glimpses of the procession on TV over the years, and even that feels cold. So many people in earmuffs and puffy jackets. Hard pass.
Except for this year, thought you. Because I just found out that MTDP is going to be a non-binary and transgender extravaganza. Is that enough for me to pack a bag and high-tail it to New York? Absolutely not. But I will be cheering the queering of the MTDP from my couch in Michigan. In energy, really, because I likely will not be watching the parade regardless.
I never even would acquire known that MTDP was going queer all the way if it weren’t for One Million Moms (OMM), a group of, presumably, moms, who rail against anything and everything LGBTQ+ in popular culture. The organization also does not have one million members. But I have to agree that One Million Moms sounds better than One Thousand Moms or A Handful of Moms Who Are Haters.
Honestly, I can’t really think of a better PR team for any company or thing that wants people to know it accepts LGBTQ+ peo
