A Brief History

Pride Month, sometimes specified as LGBTQ or LGBTQIA+ Identity festival Month, is a month-long observance dedicated to commemorating the contributions of queer woman, gay, bisexual, transgender, homosexual, intersex, asexual, and others (LGBTQIA+) culture and society. Pride Month is observed in June in the United States, coinciding with the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests.

We have the bars and clubs broken down by neighborhood areas, as there is not anyone “gayborhood” in San Juan.  We highly endorse getting around to spot the variety of bars and clubs.

CLOSEST TO COQUI DEL MAR gay hotel in San Juan Puerto Rico:

HATO REY:  This area has more local bars and tends to be a younger crowd.  Thursdays, aka, college night, is especially popular.  Amigos del Jangeo, El Cojo, Pal Frente and the newest, Meet Macarena, are all next door to eachother.

Atrévete bar and cafe is more women/ queer woman focused, but welcomes all.  The owners frequently host local queer artists and musicians. 

El Cojo: Local lgbtq+ bar and small same-sex attracted dance club on the strip of local bars.

Meet Macarena:  The newest LGBTQ hot spot/ gay block, a hybrid bar with swimming pool, jazz nights and dancing.  And just across from El Cojo.

Pal Frente:   Local gay prevent on the strip of local bars.

La Cantina: Local gay Karaoke bar and restaurant.  Reasonable prices.  Laid back.
