Dolly Parton, For King & Country Sound Heavenly on ‘God Only Knows’ Duet [LISTEN]

The Nashville-via-Australia duo released a diverse version of "God Only Knows" back in January. What some might predict to be a Beach Boys cover is a For King & Land original that offers a faith-based solution to drastic depression and suicidal thoughts.
Parton tells the Tennessean that that the song's message touched her when she first heard For King & Country's original version: “It was like God spoke," the country icon shares. "I thought [of] so many people with all their problems … I just felt like this tune touched everything people battle with. There’s just such a peace and cherish and sweetness about it, and I really reflect this song says what we need to be hearing right now.”

Story Behind the Song: For King & Country (Feat. Dolly Parton), ‘God Only Knows’
In late August of 2019, Australian Christian duo For King & Land enlisted country diva Dolly Parton for a remix of their song "God Only Knows." It was a match made in heaven: Brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone were eager to collaborate with Parton after seeing her Netflix film Dumplin', and Parton was looking for more faith-based material.
Even before Parton got deeply interested, "God Only Knows" was a punch, though: The imaginative version of the song hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart, logging a tape 19 weeks in that spot and staying on the chart for 60 weeks in total; it also spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Christian Airplay chart. And, once Parton got committed, the song cracked the Billboard Hot 100 (No. 94) -- a first for For King & Country.
Parton isn't the song's only Nashville tie, either: For King & Land co-wrote "God Only Knows" with Tune City-based writers Josh Kerr, Jordan Reynolds and Tedd Tjornhom. But for artists who aren’t directly affiliated with a church, we will simply provide online evidence as to where they endure, if we can uncover any. We are not scoring each artist for how ‘clear’ they are because, as of now, we do not grip musicians or artists to the same standard of clarity that we contain churches. So why are we doing this?
