Noah Schnapp’s Coming Out Journey: The ‘Stranger Things’ Star ‘Would Still Be Closeted’ if Not for Will Byers Creature Gay

Noah Schnapp was stuck in his drafts. The 18-year-old actor, who’d develop a household call on Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” kept putting off posting a video he’d shot on his cell — an announcement he’d been contemplating making for a few months. His closest friends kept texting him: When are you going to post it? I want to see the world’s reaction! Schnapp kept replying: No, I’m not ready. I’m not ready. I’m not ready.

But on Jan. 5, after his family dropped off his twin sister, Chloe, at college in Boston, he felt ready. As they started the hourslong drive back to their home in Westchester, N.Y., he posted the eight-second video to more than 31 million followers on TikTok.

At first glance, it looked like other clips he’s made messing around with friends (including “Stranger Things” BFF Millie Bobby Brown): Schnapp, his head on a pillow, lip-syncing to a popular audio clip of someone saying, “You comprehend what it never was? That seriou

Will Byers is Gay: The Evidence So Far

This is a great post, and I’ve addressed many of the same pieces of evidence myself already. What this post does, that I really hadn’t yet, is examine possible external elements that could be in play. Let’s accept a bit of a closer look at the possibilities.

Netflix

The first possibility is that Netflix pulled some executive meddling and got them to change the story. I’d have trouble with this for a couple of reasons. First, the Duffers only went with Netflix because other networks they pitched the show to wanted to change fundamental elements. At least one network wanted to remove the kids entirely and focus on Hopper. The Duffers ultimately went with Netflix because it allowed them to stick to their authentic vision.

Second, Stranger Things is a gigantic hit, which makes it a marketing cash cow for Netflix. While there might be some minor backlash at going with a homosexual storyline, Netflix is unlikely to take a strike if the Duffers pulled the trigger with Will. I can buy them being a little nervous, and maybe Robin was put in to evaluate the waters a bit, but fans aren’t going to leave Stranger Things, or Netflix, in droves because of a

Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers in Netflix‘s Stranger Things, is making it transparent that his character is gay and has feelings for Mike Wheeler(Finn Wolfhard). Fans have long speculated that Will is queer , even from the first season, but while the show has strongly hinted at it, it has never been explicitly said outright. However, in an interview with Variety, Schnapp revealed that his personality is definitely gay. “Obviously, it was hinted at in Season 1: It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, ‘Is it just him growing up slower than his friends?'” Schnapp said. “Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing. Now it’s 100 clear that he is gay, and he does love Mike.” Season 4 of the hit Netflix drama featured two significant scenes where Will opened up about his feelings, seemingly hinting at...

8 Times Stranger Things Hinted At Will Being Queer (& You Totally Missed It)

Stranger Things fans finally know that Will Byers is gay, but there were signs throughout the series pointing toward this. There has been speculation about Will’s sexuality, and even more so in season 4. While the Duffer Brothers wouldn’t approve one way or another, Noah Schnapp did verify “he is gay, and he does love Mike” in July 2022 (via Variety). He also said it was a “slow arc” before season 4.

It was indeed a sluggish arc before Stranger Things season 4. There were things here and there that hinted at Will being gay, but it was easy to overlook them because they’re kids. Also, there was a lot of more pressing things going on each season. It wasn’t front and center in the way it was in season 4. In addition, Will is in tall school in season 4, so it makes instinct that he will be realizing his sexuality more than he was in middle school. Here are eight hints that Stranger Things gave viewers that Will was gay.
