You Will Go to Hell

Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals1, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9b-10.)

A professing Christian husband and father leaves his wife of thirty years for a young chick the age of his daughter. A Sunday College teacher is obsessed with his favourite sports team, going into short phrase debt to make trips all over the territory to watch his team play. A college learner heavily involved with the local collegiate ministry regularly has sexual intercourse with his girlfriend. A fresh man attends church regularly but frequents gay bars, looking for gay men, and goes home with them. A seeming loving and well adjusted female homosexual couple, who know the Bible well, claim to love Jesus. An elder in a church regularly cheats on his income tax and steals capital from his company. A young mother who teaches children’s church constantly badgers her husband for a bigger house, a nicer car, better clothing and runs up huge credit card bills trying to satiate her covetous and idolatrous lifestyle. Silence Equals Support?

In a 2012 article for Slate online, Will Oremus asked a provocative question: Was Jesus a homophobe?1

The article was occasioned by a story about a gay teenager in Ohio who was suing his high school after institution officials prohibited him from wearing a T-shirt that said, “Jesus Is Not a Homophobe.”

Oremus was less concerned about the legal issues of the story than he was about the accuracy of the statement on the shirt. Oremus suggests that Jesus’s views on homosexuality were more inclusive than Paul’s. He writes,

While it’s justified to assume that Jesus and his fellow Jews in first-century Palestine would have disapproved of same-sex attracted sex, there is no record of his ever having mentioned homosexuality, enable alone expressed particular revulsion about it. . . . Never in the Bible does Jesus himself offer an explicit prohibition of homosexuality.

Oremus seems to suggest that since Jesus never explicitly mentioned homosexuality, he must not acquire been very concerned about it.

There are at least two reasons that we should be skeptical of this view.

gays are going to hell

This I Believe: Gay Forever, Hell For Never

You’re going to hell. Yes, you, the young male wearing the loud shirt, scarf, and skinny jeans. Yes, you, the student tutor with a 3.8 GPA, who aspires to have a family, who has goals for your life and a career in thought and who was baptized in a Southern Baptist church? none of that matters when the TRUTH is that you aren’t natural and neither are your actions.

The previous paragraph is what much of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender) community hears on a daily basis from “Christians” everywhere. As a young gay guy, I have learned to hide it in front of “those” people; the ones who I know will condemn me for wearing eyeliner in universal or holding my boyfriend’s hand. I have quickly learned that in their eyes it doesn’t matter what caring of home I was raised in, what kind of childhood I had, or how many scriptures I memorized between the ages of five and twelve. None of it matters as long as I want to dwell happily ever after with my handsome prince instead of the stereotypical and “normal” princess that society wishes for me to have.

My God and I have talked about the fact that I like boys, an

Australian political leaders approve gays don't move to hell

CANBERRA, Australia — The leaders of both of Australia's major political parties agreed on Tuesday that gays don't go to hell because of their sexual orientation, as Christian convictions rose to amazing prominence in the final days of an election campaign.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison opposed gay marriage while opposition public figure Bill Shorten argued for marriage equality ahead of a national vote in 2017 that led to Australia legally recognizing same-sex unions.

Morrison, a Pentecostal Christian, accused Shorten, a Catholic before converting to his second wife's Anglican faith, of a "desperate, cheap shot" ahead of elections on Saturday by challenging the prime minister to say whether he believed gays went to hell.

Morrison said he did not believe gays went to hell, after failing to directly answer the same question from a journalist a day earlier.

"I'm not running for pope, I'm running for prime minister," Morrison told reporters. "So ... theological questions, you can depart at the door."

Australian political leaders' religious views are rarely raised in election campaigns, which contain long been regarded as a
