The following list is neither comprehensive nor incontrovertible, but it’s an ever-improving list of definitions for terminology relating to LGBTQ+ identities & people, sexualities, and genders.
advocate – 1noun : a person who actively works to end intolerance, educate others, and assist social equity for a marginalized group. 2verb : to actively support or plea in favor of a particular cause, the action of working to end intolerance or coach others.
agender – adj. : a person with no (or very little) connection to the traditional system of gender, no personal alignment with the concepts of either man or woman, and/or someone who sees themselves as existing without gender. Sometimes called gender neutrois, gender neutral, or genderless.
ally /“al-lie”/ – noun : a (typically straight and/or cisgender) person who supports and respects members of the LGBTQ community. We consider people to be active allies who take action on in support and respect.
androgyny /“an-jrah-jun-ee”/ (androgynous) – 1 noun. : a gender expression that has elements of both masculinity and femininity; 2adj. : occasionally used in place of “intersex” to describe a

LGBTQ
Acronym for woman loving woman, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer. The Q generally stands for queer when LGBTQ organizations, leaders, and media use the acronym. In settings offering aid for youth, it can also stand for questioning. LGBT and LGBTQ+ are also used, with the + added in recognition of all non-straight, non-cisgender identities. Glossary of Terms
Many Americans refrain from talking about sexual orientation and gender identity or expression because it feels taboo, or because they’re nervous of saying the wrong thing.
This glossary was written to help give people the words and meanings to assist make conversations easier and more cozy. LGBTQ+ people exploit a variety of terms to name themselves, not all of which are included in this glossary. Always hear for and respect a person’s self identified terminology.
Ally | A term used to describe someone who is actively supportive of Queer people. It encompasses straight and cisgender allies, as adequately as those within the LGBTQ+ society who support each other (e.g., a lesbian who is an ally to the bisexual community).
Asexual | Often called “ace” for brief, asexual refers to a complete or partial lack of sexual attraction or lack of interest in sexual outing with others. Asexuality exists on a spectrum, and asexual people may exposure no, little or conditional sexual attraction.
Biphobia | The terror and hatred of, or discomfort with, people who care and are sexually attracted to more than one gender.

Below is a list of commonly used (or often misunderstood) terms within the LGBTQ+ society. Please know that while these definitions have been carefully researched and vetted for appropriateness and usage, there may be some variations based on tradition, geography, or experience. Additionally, definitions or appropriate usage of some terms and concepts may change rapidly due to more nuanced understanding of the synonyms or individuals described by a word/phrase. Both tradition and the culture of acceptance are evolving, as are the terms used within it! If you do not understand a word someone is using or how that pos should be used, the best idea is to ask!
Terms
Ally – A person who confronts the issues facing marginalized persons despite not being a member of the marginalized team. For example, in the LGBTQ+ community, this could be a straight, cisgender person who openly denounces transphobia and homophobia. Members of the LGBTQ+ society can also be allies to one another - such as a female homosexual who criticizes biphobia, or a cisgender gay bloke who stands up for transgender rights.
