Not a pencil is out of place in the conference room at The Lalit in Delhi where I rest. The door opens and in strides a man in a flaming red kurta, green shoes as bright as grass, the coolest beard and the widest, most unrestrained smile. Meet Keshav Suri, who has broken each writ rule to make an exceptionally inspiring story in Indian hospitality and inclusivity for the LGBTQI community. He has stripped the boredom off the hotel business and homosexual rights activism and a brought a whiff of uncontrolled colour and a rare, powerful purpose to an otherwise black and white-gloved industry—all with pure love. ‘Yes I ain’t the one to follow rules!’

Keshav, who is the youngest Executive Director at The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group, launched the Pure-Love campaign in September last year. He describes it as a platform for all walks of life, in particular, members of the Indian LGBTQI group to come forth, share their experiences, seek emotional help and find economic opportunities for themselves. In one of the most impactful initiatives in the country, he filed a writ petition challenging Sec 377 of the IPC in so far as it criminalises consensual relations

Resplendent in a gown, make-up and a blonde wig, Suri matched steps with his mother on stage to a crowd of cheering onlookers.

Keshav Suri, son of the late hotelier Lalit Suri and Executive Director of Lalit Hotels, has long been an outspoken voice over equal rights for the LGBTQ collective, and prior to the Supreme Court's landmark judgment earlier this year to overturn Section 377 had filed petitions to the apex court requesting the Victorian-era law to be done away with.

Despite his long association with homosexual rights one might believe he'd hesitate to set his money where his mouth is but Suri has no intentions of shying away from what close-minded people may speak. The hotelier, who recently married his partner in a private ceremony, performed to classic Hindi ballad, Kaisi Paheli Zindagani, in full drag along with his mother.

Keshav Suri, 33, executive director of The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group, which owns The Lalit hotel, filed a petition in the Supreme Court last week against Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalises all forms of non-penile vaginal intercourse.

On April 23, the court directed the Centre to respond to Suri’s plea to tackle discrimination against LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) and intersex people within a week. The Lalit is one of the 83 global firms that support the United Nations Standards of Conduct for Business, released in October 2017. In an interview with Dhamini Ratnam, Suri said the discrimination brought about by Section 377 does not only threaten the dignity of LGBTQ people but also hurts the country economically.

Suri has been a champion for same-sex attracted rights and has been one of the petitioners in Section 377 cases. In June this year, he got married to his long time loved one Cyril Feuillebois in Paris. As the Supreme Court on Thursday strikes down Section 377 decriminalising sexual relations between consenting homesexual adults, Suri spoke to Mint on the landmark judgment and starting his fresh initiative to form awareness and allow the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer) community.

Q: You have been vocal about gay rights and have been one of the petitioners in Section 377 case. What is your reaction to this landmark verdict?

I wanted to scream, yell and shout. I’m esctatic. Today finally people like me ..the LGBTQ community are no longer in the fringe or in the darkness. We are finally out of the shadow. I’m very happy.

"There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved" is how a notable saying by George Sand goes like and that's exactly what holds true for this couple's love story too. A love that knows no boundaries and builds beyond the ideas of what is and what should be, is the purest form of desire and is metaphoric of godly love. Resonating with this unbound and unconditional treasure is this sweetest story of Keshav and Cyril who proudly tied the knot as a gay couple and we can't stop gushing over how happy they both look together.

Keshav Suri, the executive director of the Lalit Hotels and Cyril Feuillebois, the founder of Kronokare Cosmetics recently exchanged rings and vows in an intimate beach wedding in Goa. As Keshav says, "only fools in love marry twice in the same year with the same person", they previously tied the knot this year in June in Paris and didn't intellect doing it again (so adorable). Surrounded by their families, friends, supporters, and well-wishers, their quaint wedding is worth awing at and the photos are overflowing with bespoke happiness and sheer love.
