Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Definitions

Sexual orientation

An inherent or immutable enduring emotional, romantic or sexual attraction to other people. Note: an individual’s sexual orientation is independent of their gender identity.

Gender identity

One's innermost concept of self as male, female, a blend of both or neither – how individuals perceive themselves and what they call themselves. One's gender identity can be the same or alternative from their sex assigned at birth.

Gender expression

External appearance of one's gender self, usually expressed through action, clothing, body characteristics or voice, and which may or may not conform to socially defined behaviors and characteristics typically paired with being either masculine or feminine.

Transgender

An umbrella word for people whose gender identity and/or expression is different from cultural expectations based on the sex they were assigned at birth. Being transgender does not imply any specific sexual orientation. Therefore, transsexual people may identify as straight, gay, lesbian, attracted to both genders, etc.

Abstract:

The article analyzes the communication of the cover image of the National Policy for Womxn loving womxn, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite and Transgender Integral Health. This is a qualitative-descriptive investigate with image assessment conducted in the light of Judith Butler\'s concepts. The textual corpus was 13 texts, six pictures and the background. The main colors used were black and sky. The human figures that perform the masculine gender are superimposed over those of the feminine gender. The texts only situate the content of the document as general policy. The truth principle disseminated was gender identity, and this term was identified more frequently. The cover of the document reinforces stereotypes by showing traditional gender performances in a fixed way and disregarding the political utilize

What do sapphic, gay, bisexual and transgender Britons consider the British common thinks of them?

Gay and homosexual woman Britons tend to think the common has a favourable view of them, but bisexual and particularly transgender Britons feel less positivity from the public

A new YouGov survey shows that, among gay and queer woman Britons, 54% accept the public has a positive view of lesbian and gay people, with a further 26% believing they grab a neither positive or negative view. One in five (19%) think the public have a negative view of homosexuals.

Among bisexual Britons, only 31% believe the public view bisexuals in a favourable light. While 36% think Britons take neither a positive or negative view of bisexuals, 29% believe they take a negative stance.

When it comes to transgender Britons, most (56%) express the public has an unfavourable view of transgender people. Just 26% reflect it is neutral and 14% accept it is positive.

What do Britons state they themselves assess of gay, woman-loving woman, bisexual and trans people?

For their part, the British common express more positive views of the queer community than lesbian, gay, bi-curious and transgender Britons expect.

It’s easy to get this confused, particularly because T is included in the LGBTQ+ acronym (T standing for “Transgender”). The key is to remember that transgender is referring to someone’s gender identity and not their sexuality orientation. Transgender people can be gay, straight, pansexual, lgbtq+, asexual, or any other sexual orientation (just prefer cisgender people!).

We recommend this workshop for all audiences – lgbtq+, straight, queer, allied, and anywhere in between (or outside) those categories. While some of it may be old information for some, we believe that everyone, no matter their knowledge level, will earn something out of the experience.
