Bassanio’s sexuality can be examined and scrutinized despite his seemingly heteronormative deeds and intentions. The homoerotic undertone of Antonio and Bassanio’s affair is easily discussed by analyzing the dedication and declarations of love by Antonio because he does not possess a heterosexual passionate relationship to counteract against his treasure for Bassanio. Bassanio’s commitment to Portia, however, does not dictate his sexuality or establish his heterosexuality. Remembering that Bassanio’s relationships grab place during a time when homosexuality is a sin and a punishable crime, the audience can translate Bassanio’s actions as the actions of one who is assumed heterosexual by societal default.  His attraction to Portia is not being dismissed just because he is not heterosexual. Instead, modern audiences can talk about the idea of bisexuality or a fluid sexuality.

First we can examine the love triangle of Bassanio, Portia and Antonio. The heterosexual love of Bassanio and Portia cannot be pursued or consummated without the aid of Antonio. Shakespeare has made it clear that the path to Bassanio’s heterosexual adoration cannot seperate itself

Antonio Banderas' Opens Up About How Playing Gay Characters Changed Him

— -- From “Philadelphia” and “Zorro” to “Puss in Boots,” Antonio Banderas is full of surprises each time he hits the big screen. Banderas is now playing playing “Super” Mario Sepúlveda, the man who took charge while trapped with 32 other miners in Chile in 2010.

It was a story that had to be relived on screen, Banderas told ABC News of the recent film “The 33.”

“What we saw on television was more Hollywood than Hollywood,” Banderas said. “If anybody tried to write something like this out of their minds, a fiction movie, nobody would include believed this. Because the 33 come out alive, it’s a happy finish. It’s very Hollywood. But there were more things down there. … it’s about life and the simplicity of it.”

But unlike this role, some of Banderas’ other more noted roles were not such easy choices. Banderas, 55, told Peter Travers his greatest challenge came when he first began productive with director Pedro Almodóvar.

“He opened many different places in my brain as a human being, many different doors,” Banderas said. “He taught me many different things about morality. I remember when we we

Antonio’s Way

Antonio Fargas. | DOUBLE XXPOSURE MEDIA RELATIONS

BY DAVID NOH | I’m more man than you’ll ever be and more gal than you’ll ever get!” This ultimate putdown was ferociously spat out in 1976’s “Carwash” by Antonio Fargas as take-no-prisoners queenly queen Lindy. The line not only became a gay cult favorite, but has forever enshrined Fargas in moviegoers’ hearts for this portrayal, as adequately as his other gender-bending roles in “Next Interrupt Greenwich Village,” “Ambush Murders,” and Millie Jackson’s participate “Young Man, Older Woman,” in which he offered something of a model for Tyler Perry’s Madea.

The fabulously loquacious Fargas deliciously took control of the interview before I even had a chance to ask a question and his eloquence gave him every right to, as far as I was concerned: “You know, I was just talking to an old friend about my film work and my life’s work and how they collided. So much of my history has come full circle. Did you see that unsung “Car Wash?” They talked about the problems of getting the show done on both the racial a antonio is gay
